There are two escape mechanisms in Argent X granted by Argent 2FA enabled for your Argent account. These are flows that allow protection and recovery alongside the seed phrase.
In practice, they can be used to recover an account for which you have lost the seed phrase, or to remove Argent 2FA in an emergency situation.
Change Guardian: escapeGuardian mechanism
This mechanism changes or removes the guardian of your account.
Scenarios when this can be used:
- The most likely scenario when this can be used is if you lose access to your email address. For the exact steps, please contact us at support@argent.xyz providing your Argent X account address and the email that is no longer available.
- In extreme cases, this mechanism can be started if Argent’s servers are not responding and you are unable to receive the email verification.
- It can also give you a signal that your seed phrase was compromised. An attacker, in order to gain control of your account will first need to remove Argent 2FA via the escape mechanism, which takes 7 days but doesn’t require access to your email. In this even you will receive multiple emails with subject line Escape guardian triggered. Go into your Argent X and you will see the screen that informs you about Argent 2FA removal. If you don’t recognize this action, we suggest cancel the escapeGuardian mechanism from your Argent X wallet immediately (click Keep Argent 2FA and sign the transaction), and transfer your funds to a new wallet with a new seed phrase and preferably created in a separate environment.
Changing account key mechanism (in development)
In case you lose your seed phrase but have Argent 2FA enabled, you can contact Argent to start a Key Recovery mechanism, and after 7 days user will regain control of their account.
If you in the meantime find your seed phrase and log into Argent X you will see the guardian escape confirmation screen where you can stop the escape process.
In this case it is recommended to cancel the recovery mechanism (Cancel key change button), since the seed phrase is in Argent X and there’s no need for recovery anymore.
