Typically, non-custodial wallets require you to use a seed phrase, a string of words that you might write down on a piece of paper for safekeeping. The purpose of this was to help you recover your wallet.
We didn't think that made sense, so we've designed a new recovery process.
The seed (in our case the private key) is generated and stored locally on your phone. By design it never leaves your phone unencrypted. On your phone it is encrypted with (a slow hash of) your pass code and if available the Secure Enclave, then stored in the app data or in the local Keychain (the most secure element of you phone).
Since the private key never leaves the phone unencrypted, it cannot be recovered by your guardians. But what your guardians can do is collectively define a new private key as the legitimate owner of your wallet. This is only possible because Argent is a smart-contract wallet.
Now you can just use guardians - people or devices you trust. We hope our solution is quicker, easier and means you're far less likely to ever lose access to your funds.
